Mrs. Peterman teaches all the reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar for both sections of 6th grade.  This is where students & parents can see daily assignments, links to content and any other general information about 6th grade ELA.

ArtPrize field Trip 9 - 2:15
 
ELA:
Work on Writing - ArtPrize Writing assignment, due tomorrow in a google doc.
Students  are asked to reflect on their experience on our field trip to ArtPrize 2015.  As part of this reflection they need to  tell about their favorite ArtPrize piece and why it was their favorite.  I would like students to find an image of their favorite piece to copy and paste into the google document from artprize.org
 
HW: Read for 30+ minutes at home
Math: TenMarks assignments are due Friday.  
 
Coming home tonight is a pink note about parent teacher conferences dates and your preference. Please send back to school ASAP.  Thank you!

HW: Read at home 30+ minutes & review Reading Goal in Reading Response Journal (RRJ) with parents have them sign
 
Reading: Writing a Read Goal for this first trimester and a plan to make sure I meet my goal.  10 books by November 27th.  I have 8 weeks to get to 10 books.  The trimester ends 12/1/15.
 
Unlocking the Reading Code - two parts of the brain that house the sounds and letters, building strong fast pathways between the two parts of the brain to become better readers.  
 
Writing: Establishing how we use our writer's notebooks and how we share, some work on writing time.  
 
Math: HW: Operations Worksheet
 
Science: none
 
Book orders due tomorrow.

We set-up our Everything ELA Binder with all our reading record papers
 
Writing: Generating ideas for personal narratives
 
Math: HW: Long division worksheet to prepare for a 4 problem quiz that willa be tomorrow.  
 
Science: Watched a video on Scientific method
 
Pictures coming home tonight if they were taken at open house.  If your child did not have pictures taken they will be bringing home a picture order form.  Picture Day / Retake is scheduled for September 30th!  That is the same as our ArtPrize trip.  I was assured that we would get our pictures taken first thing in the AM so that if they want they can change for the field trip.  

Wed. 9/16/15

ELA: HW: Read at home for 30 minutes
Read-to-Self, building reading stamina
 
Writing: decorating our Writer's Notebooks with things that are important or interesting to us.  
 
Social Studies: Country research and finding images from that country to possibly print and decorate our social studies journal with.  
 
Math: HW: double digit long division sheet
Science: Scientific method video
 
Book Orders went home with both classes.  There is no pressure to buy, just extending the opportunity to purchase books at great prices.  If you purchase books it will give our class points to use to buy books for the classroom.  Our online ordering class code is: JC3TT

ELA: 
Reading: HW read for 30+ minutes at home
We discussed reading memories and turned it in to Mrs. P for a daily work grade
Writing: Due tomorrow - pictures, magazine clippings, stickers, and fun tape for decorating our writer's notebooks.
We discussed what it will look like during Work on Writing time and what writer's write about.

Mon. 9/14/15

ELA:
Reading: HW- Read for 30 minutes at home, complete Rdg. Memory sheet- due tomorrow.
Due Wednesday! --- Bring 1 composition notebook, decorating supplies, & your favorite children's book
Math/Science - Review long division, rounding, & multiplication
Distribute Chromebooks and discuss uses and responsibilities
 
ArtPrize permission slips due Wednesday Sept. 23rd along with $2.00 to cover transportation.  

Friday 9/11

Here's what we did today:
 
  • Reviewed social contract/behavior expectations and consequences
  • Went over PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) and how to earn tickets and be a part of monthly school wide celebrations.  
  • ELA: Reading Interest Inventory, Read to Self time, 
ELA Homework: Look for things at home that you could bring in to decorate your writer's notebook with such as: pictures of family, friends, pets, magazine clippings, stickers or fun tape.  
 
  • Math: Review packet 
  • Social Studies: Discuss the timeline of Events of 9/11/01
  • Fun Friday: Octopus Tag with both classes
 
Friday Folders coming home for the first time.  Inside is a permission slip for our first field trip to ArtPrize Grand Rapids.  Please sign and return the permission slip by Wednesday September 23rd.
